Kikki K Dark Mint Honeycomb Personal Planner

I had a million ideas of what I should post about.  After receiving my new planner in the mail yesterday, I knew what I had to write about.  My dark mint Kikki K!!!!!!!!

Let me start out by saying that I used to own one of these.   About six months ago, I didn't think that i used the planner too often and sold it to a lady in Italy.  Yes, it made her day.  It did not make my day.  I've never felt seller's regret like I did that day.  This planner is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!  One of my favorite colors is seafoam green.  Add on to that the beautiful gold flake honeycomb pattern and I was sold!!!!!!!!

I looked for months for another dark mint Kikki K but to no avail.  All of the ones on eBay were $193 plus dollars.  I can't afford that.  I had all but given up on owning one.

However, one day last week, I started doing a weird search on eBay.   I wondered what would happen if I typed in "mint honeycomb Kikki K".  Guess what?!!!! My unicorn popped up and it was very reasonably priced!!!!! There were three days left for bidding and no one had bid on it!  I truly think that the lady didn't put enough descriptive words!!!  I watched it until i was blue in the face!!!!!! I just knew that someone was going to bid at the last minute and I wouldn't win it!!!  Late on Tuesday, the auction was close to ending and I won it!!!!!!  I couldn't be happier.  I don't have it completely set up yet, but I want to take my time.

This brings me to another point.   Although it is so much fun to buy and sell planners on Facebook and eBay, you have to be so very careful!!!!  Make sure that you look at every single picture that is posted.  If you see something odd, ask!! I think that most ladies on Facebook are honest, but I've been ripped off a few times by not being careful!  Here are a few guidelines for you:

  • Ask how old the planner is.  Is the seller the first owner, if not, why is she selling it?
  • Are the rings tight or are they a bit wonky?  The seller has to tell the truth or you can go after a Paypal claim.
  • Speaking of Paypal claims, ALWAYS PAY THROUGH GOODS AND SERVICES!!!!.  Don't let someone tell you that they can't afford the fee unless they are paid through friends and family.  If something happens, you are not covered.   No matter how good the friend is, please just pay through "Goods and Services".
  • I don't have any issue buying and selling to people from different countries but there are a few thing you should know.   If a picture of an item is posted, ask the seller to put a post it note next to the item with their name on it and the date.  I often ask them to hold up two or three fingers so that I know it is a live picture.  I had $40 taken from me from a gal but, luckily, I paid through "goods and services".  However,  it can take up to 30 days to get your money.
  • If a deal sounds too good, it probably is!!!  You ladies work way to hard for you money to let some one take it from you.
  • Also, never, never, never pay for something other than with paypal!!!!! Do not use Western Union or cash!!!!!! That's got bad written all over it!!!!!!!

Facebook and eBay and be great places to buy things.  You just must be very careful.

Take care ladies and enjoy finding your unicorns!!!!!

Planner 101

I am a self confessed stationery addicted, and have been for as long as I can remember. School shopping during the summer holidays was my favourite thing to do. So, for me, the transition to becoming a planner addict was inevitable.

Here in the UK the planner community is continuously growing and I often seen posts on FB groups asking what are the essentials for planning.

This is what I would personally recommend.

Planners!

This is, without doubt, the hardest part.

Do you want rings? or a spiral bound planner? Do you want a pocket sized planner? A personal or A5 size? Are you going to with Filofax or Kikki K? or maybe a spiral bound Erin Condren Life planner is more you? or perhaps a Mambi Happy Planner. And they are only the most popular ones in the UK. The list in endless and I could do a full post just on these. If you want to try them all, join FB selling pages or look on eBay. Paperchase also have a range of planners, both ringed and spiral bound.

What about pens?

I LOVE gel writers. I LOVE sharpies. I LOVE felt tips. I just LOVE pens!
I am currently using an Erin Condren Planner and find that gel pens don't snap though the pages. I LOVE frixion pens and Papermate Ink joys.

Pimp my Planner

Paperclips, wash tape, stickers, journal cards, die cuts, shaker dashboards, charms, pompoms. Get yourself to instagram search for #plannerinspo then go to Etsy and search planner accessories et voila. Be prepared to spend lots of pennies and hours searching!!

Washi tape is plentiful and you can pretty much get anything design/pattern/theme you need.

Finding planner peace is often a long drawn out process. You WILL find it and it will be like a light bulb moment.

FILOFAX VS. KIKKI K

I am doing a comparison today of the medium Kikki K planner versus the Filofax personal size planner.  I am using my blush pink medium Kikki K and my personal size Filofax pink Domino for comparison.  Although the Domino is a tad bit thicker than most Filofaxes, the comparison is still pretty accurate.

The first thing that a you would notice is the weight of the planners.  The Kikki K is by far a heavier planner.  For this reason, it is easy to think that maybe Kikki K's are more durable.  As for me, I believe they are.  I tend to be hard on my planners.  I shove them in my bag, drop them, use them as a small table and yes, I've sat on a few! :p.  My beautiful antique rose Finsbury is getting dented from my dumb actions.

The size of the planners is also very obvious.  The Kikki K and Filofax are almost the same height but the Kikki K is almost 10mm wider.  The difference between the thickness is unbelievable even though the Kikki K's rings measure only 1/4 bigger.

As I think about every Filofax and Kikki K that I have owned, it is clear that Filofaxes lay much flatter.  That is really important to me as I like to lay my planner in front of me most of the time so that I can write things down as I need and to consult it for anything I need to do.

Here is a table that I got from Wendaful.com's site that shows the exact measurements of both types of planners in all three sizes:

Although this is was originally supposed to be a comparison between Filofax and Kikki K planners, I am going to throw another one out there: the Recollection planner from Michael's.  I received this planner yesterday from a private sale.  Immediately, it reminded me of my Kikki K.  It was very similar in height and thickness.  As you can see, it is wider than either planners even though this is a personal planner(its holds personal pages)

The Recollections planner also has 1 1/4" rings like the Kikki K:

I know that the Recollections planner got a bad rap in the beginning because of ring problems, but there weren't any in this one.  I really, really like this planner for someone who is on the fence about an A5 or a personal.  It's a perfect mixture of both!

I will always be fond Filofax planners.  I think I am because they offer many planners in price ranges for almost everyone.  I would like to see Kikki K follow suit so that everyone could own one!

My lifelong love of planners!

Hello ladies!! I've been asked to write a little something to introduce myself and to discuss how I got into planning. I'm a married mother of four and a Grammy to a one year old grandson and one that it due in September. I am an admin in now two planner groups and run a group page also. I have also just been selected to be on the PR team of a company that is starting production very soon and should be launched by September. I love the thought of using my imagination and creating a tangible product!
From a very young age, I always had some type of planning system. Okay, it was always the free little purse calendars that the bank gave away, but I always had one! It wasn't until a little over 30 years ago that I discovered "planners". I was working for a large company who taught the Franklin Covey time keeping system. We were all issued a very generic black FC planner with a very cheap, plastic like cover. Along with the planner came the Franklin Covey catalog. I started looking at it and fell in love! Leather, big rings, purses! It was too much! I knew I wasn't going to be happy with the cheap version of the FC, I had to have a nice one. Some of us girls decided to place an order for a nicer planner and a month later, the order came. I opened the box to a beautiful teal Nappa leather planner with 7 two inch gold rings and my initials in gold on the front! I highly doubt that I got any work done that day! The other ladies kept asking to see mine and by the end of the day, most had ordered nice ones too! I kept that planner for 25 years until I graduated to a Monarch size black leather one with a strap. I don't need one that size now, but it was probably the most useful planner I ever owned. It was a briefcase and planner in one!
During a move, I lost both planners and bought a nice FC from a thrift shop. One day, I was trolling on Facebook  and found a planner site. The addiction came roaring back! I hadn't heard of Filofax or Kikki K. I hadn't heard of six ring or personal binders. I was hooked again. I bought an antique rose Filofax person Finsbury and and ice blue Kikki K personal. From there, its been a planner storm of Kate Spades, Filofaxes in every size and Kikki K's abound ! Then I noticed Traveler's notebooks. I prefer Field Note and Passport size Fauxdori's. The Standard and A5 sizes are very similar to a personal size 6 ring binder. The A6 Fauxdori is a bit too wide for me.
I recently bought a pearl color Recollections planner which I should be getting any day. I've heard they sometimes have ring problems so I hope this one doesn't. My baby is also coming soon: a pink matte Filofax Domino. I love Dominos!!!! They are like 6 ring binders and Fauxdori's wrapped up in one!!! However, I received the nicest planner that I've ever owned from Pistou Pioupiou. A black Filofax compact Regency. This is, by far, the finest planner I've owned. This classic black, (similar to alligator), shiny leather planner is almost regal. The personal inserts fit nicely into it, but It is slimmer and less wide than a personal planner. It slips nicely into any size purse that I own. It with two open side pockets where I can put money or stamps. I put a crystal Chanel planner charm on it and it looks like a million bucks!
I'm so glad to be in this group and in the planner society as well. There is a special connection that we all share. I hope that you all can find as much joy as I have. Enjoy the journey.......

I just cannot decide which one I love more.
Anyway here are the layouts I have been doing in my recollections planner. Hope you enjoy!

Why I Started Planning

As planner addicts, we all have our own reasons as to why we started. Mne happens to be that my life was so confused. I was struggling with mental illness and wanted something that would take my mind off everything. Luckily I found planning. Now whenever I am feeling down in the dumps i get out my massive stash of 20 planners and I start to go wild with stickers. Some say it is childish but as long as it keeps me sane that is all that matters.
Any way to introduce myself, my name is Corinne and I am 18 years old. I am a media content writer and developer in York. I am also a part-time model and pageant girl. I love tattoos and piercings and my record player.
I have two cats Ronnie and Reggie and they are my little babies.
Anyway, till next time.
Goodbye and happy planning,
Love Corinne.
